I was planning on releasing an update once a month, but there's been so much happening that I have decided to break July into two updates.

 

When taking out the wires that are now covered with an epoxy fillet on the inside of the hull, heating the wire with a soldering iron or hot knife softens the epoxy around it in the fillet, enough to let the wire be pulled through. All of the wires have now been removed from both chines. Heating the wires first meant no breakages to dig out...

The hanging knees have been measured from the bow to confirm correct distances, and have had a fillet applied to one side. Tomorrow, once this fillet has cured, I will remove the wedges from the wire on the other side of the knees and add fillets to that side. The wedges were used to tweak the distance from the top centre of each knee to the bow, to march the distances specified in the plans.

The vertical timber at the bow was used as a reference point to measure the distance to the hanging knees and the forward bulkhead

I removed the wires along the centreline, heating the wires before pulling them out. The masking tape had been fixed along the centreline to prevent epoxy drips.

Hinges were cut to length for the bunk storage lids. I've chosen to use bolts, so I had to file out space for the nuts.

The forward storage locker top, anchor well floor, and locker lids have all been given three coats of epoxy.

I've finally got the 42 x 19mm timber, have cut it down to 38mm for the centreboard case, and have dry fitted the components. I'm still waiting for the fibreglass cloth, but I could complete the dry-fitting of the centreboard case and port seat side in the hull.

Stringers were shaped to fit along the hull, to support the outer edges of the bunks, forward locker, and anchor well floor.

Supports for the rear buoyancy tank, and the baffles for the water ballast tank have all been given four coats of epoxy.

The top of the forward storage locker and the floor of the anchor well have been glued in place, and weighted to ensure good contact with the bead of epoxy laid along each stringer.

Fillets have been applied to the edges of the forward storage locker top, and to the sides of the anchor well. Once the tabernacle has been installed I will add a fillet to the rear edge of the anchor well floor.

Edges to the shelves are glued in place, ready for sanding and epoxy coating.

I taped the hatches together and then tack welding them with super glue, ready for flood filling the plywood edges with unthickened epoxy tomorrow. I used a plastic pipette to soak the edges with unthickened epoxy. My family used to use these for feeding rescued wildlife, and I still have a good supply of them. You can buy them from art supply shops.
