The 21 sheets of plywood were cut by Williamstown CNC Works. Each component was engraved with the item number, and any alignment lines that will be used to join the various pieces together.
Most pieces were completely cut out, but some components had to be separated, using either a Japanese pull saw or a hacksaw blade.
The separated pieces that weren't needed immediately were stored inside. All of the components are numbered, so I've placed them in numerical order, ready for future installation.
I used some recycled Tasmanian Oak to make the centreboard, cut into strips and glued them together, clamping them with wedges and weights.
The CNC shaped rudder was sealed with three coats of epoxy before I cut it out of the surrounding plywood.
Several components had to be assembled before the hull pieces were joined. Pieces were dry fitted, and once I was happy with the fit they were glued with epoxy.
Temperatures in my garage in May varied from 14 to 20 degrees Celcius, so there were no issues with the epoxy. I keep it at 22°C in a water bath heated with a small fish tank heater, and the epoxy was curing with no problems.
