The Wooden Boat Association's Rye sailing day, 15 February 2026

This was our first day out on Port Phillip in Nyatne. If anything, she exceeded our expectations! It was a great day out in light conditions, with several other Wooden Boat Association boats for company.

 

Ricketts Point, Teahouse Reef. 4 February 2026

This was the first dive of the year for us, and the highlight was the variety of life around Ricketts Point's Fish Bowl.

Aurora at Ricketts Point. 12 and 13 November 2025

 

 

Video made from 1137 photos ( Canon 450D, 11mm Tokina f2.8 lens, ISO 1600, 8 second exposures). Quite a subdued aurora, but the green was visible to the naked eye for most of the night, and the pinks could be seen from time to time. Photos taken from 9:36pm on 12 November through to 12:48am on 13 November 2025.

 

Our 1970s Drop Tank speedboat

In the early 70's Dad and I built a small speedboat from an aluminium drop tank, an external fuel tank used to extend the range of military aircraft. This footage was taken back then using our clockwork Canon Standard 8 film camera, at St Kilda Marina, Melbourne, and Eildon Weir, in country Victoria, Australia.

 

 

More paragliders at Sandringham

On Saturday 5 April 2025 there were perfect winds along the coast at Sandringham, Victoria, for paragliders. At one point there were at least 4 in the air, ranging from their usual launching point down to Red Bluff in Black Rock. It's always great to watch them floating along the cliffs!

 

 

Sailing from Altona boat ramp - 11 March 2025

Another great day out on the water with WBA members and friends on Tuesday 11 March 2025. We got to watch Campbell capsize his Navigator (on purpose), and see Chris test the latest version of his re-boarding straps. Very light winds to begin with, and a fantastic sail back to Altona at the end of the day.

 

 

Aurora Australis at Ricketts Point. 1 and 2 January 2025

Last night and this morning was fantastic at Ricketts Point!

This is a timelapse of 1800 8 second exposures on my Canon 450D DSLR, at ISO 1600, using a Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 lens.

Conditions looked a bit dubious early in the evening, but persistence paid off with a spectacular display,

I started imaging at 10:22pm and ended at 3:29am, when the clouds returned. Well worth the windy conditions!
