We offer a comprehensive range of services, designed to take the headache out of making use of new technologies.
Getting
started on the Internet If you are considering upgrading your web presence for your organisation, I can advise on the best way to get started, suggest a service provider that meets your needs, and help you to register an appropriate domain name. As a result of interest expressed by many of our clients we now offer web hosting services. We have taken the time to research the options available and developed a hosting plan that offers lots of features and that doesn't cost the earth. We currently offer a web hosting package where you only pay the administrative costs of setting up a hosting account for you and your first year's hosting is free of charge,
We can create a web site, and teach you how to maintain it yourself, or we
can provide a maintenance solution for you. If your organisation has been
online for a while and you feel that your site needs some attention, we can
do that for you too.
Metadata
- data about data, is becoming increasingly important. Appropriate metadata
can improve your rankings in search engines, and is essential for resource
discovery in specialist portals such as the Victorian Education Channel. We
have worked on a number of metadata projects, including projects for the Victorian
Department of Education and the National Gallery of Victoria, and have also
created some free metadata creation tools
that you are welcome to download or use online.
We can develop audio and video files for your website or CD-ROM, and arrange
for hosting of these files on a streaming server if needed. We can also produce
VHS or Digital Video tapes if needed.
When your site is up and running, it is essential that your existing and
potential clients can find it easily. We can assist with positioning techniques
and the inclusion of metadata that will considerably improve your ranking
in search engines, making your site that much easier to find.
CD-ROM
design Sometimes, an online presence isn't exactly what you need. If you have large amounts of content that you want distributed to a specific group, you may find that a CD-ROM is a better alternative. Large documents, video clips, confidential material that shouldn't be available to everyone, and files that are just too big to easily download from a web site, can all be delivered to a specific audience, regardless of whether they have an Internet connection or not. We can design and produce CD-ROMs to your exact needs, in quantities as small as 10 or as large as 10,000!
Our business card CD-ROMs can hold up to 52MB of information (the equivalent of 36 floppy disks). Roughly the size of a conventional business card, these discs fit into the central indentation of tray loading CD drives - the most common type of CD drive currently used in computers. Our discs will work in Macintosh and PC computers.
They
are an impressive alternative to business cards, and are increasingly being
used as name tags at conferences, as they can also include an electronic copy
of the conference proceedings.
The Internet is changing! Research indicates that by 2003 more than 50% of Internet users will have a language other than English as their primary language. Internet Technology Services staff have been involved with the development of websites in languages other than English since 1996 . We can create individual web pages in the languages appropriate to your target audience, or we can rework your entire site. Rather than a web address in English, it is now possible to have an address in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, as well as many northern European and Cryllic languages. We offer advice and assistance in registering Multilingual Domain Names in just about any commonly used language. We are committed to providing access to Web resources using languages other than English. Peter Batchelor was an inaugural board member and Secretary of the Multilingual Internet Names Consortium.
It
is extremely important that pages in your site load quickly and are readable
by your entire audience. We develop accessible, well structured sites that
make use of graphics only where they are important. This ensures that our
sites will load quickly regardless of the speed of the Internet connection
being used, preventing users giving up and going somewhere else. Another benefit
of this approach is that our sites will be easy to use and view on a variety
of browsing platforms, further improving accessibility and usability for all
of your clients.
